Facebook Ask Small Businesses to “Evolve With Us”

Over the last years small business started to feel left behind when Facebook began to curb Pages organic reach in News Feeds. Facebook made it clear that the best way to reach customers is to pay for advertising.

After years and years of working hard to build a community around a business, owners were felling burned that they now had to pay to reach their own customers.

During an interview with Street Fight last week, Facebook director of small business for North America, Jonathan Czaja wanted to make it know that he understands the feeling.

“The reality is that Facebook as an advertising platform is evolving. We started with ads based on social metrics, and what we’ve done is spend a ton of time building advertising products based on business objectives rather than social actions. We’ve seen this platform evolve and now our advertisers are having to evolve with us.”

Czaja acknowledged that Facebook has underinvested in the service it has provided to small businesses and reminds them that there is still a lot of value to the Page apart from distributing content.

To help improve the relationship with small businesses, Facebook is testing live chat for advertiser support and looking into voice support and online courses and other self help tools.
